Caitlin Clark never received a scholarship offer from her 'dream school'

With Caitlin Clark, the first overall choice in the 2024 WNBA Draft, only days away from beginning her professional career, let's look back at when she was in high school.

When Clark, an Iowa native, graduated from high school, she hoped to play collegiate basketball somewhere other than Iowa.

Clark had another "dream school" in mind.Clark, like many girls who grew up in the 2010s, aspired to play basketball for Geno Auriemma at UConn. After all, the Huskies were the nation's top program.

However, UConn never awarded Clark a scholarship. Instead, they signed Paige Bueckers, an exceptional point guard recruit.

"I loved UConn," Clark added. "I believe they are the coolest place on Earth, and I wanted to say I was recruited by them... But they never spoke to my family or me.

Meanwhile, Auriemma did not make a major mistake. Bueckers is one of the top players in the country. However, Auriemma also had high respect for Clark.

"I love her. I believe she is the best player; forget that I ever stated Paige was the best in the country. "I believe she's the best player of all time," Auriemma stated.

A Clark-Bueckers tandem could have been entertaining to see at the collegiate level, though. Perhaps we will see it on a professional level in the next years...
