Strawberry Banana Smoothie

This delicious strawberry banana smoothie recipe is the ideal healthy breakfast! It's gently sweet, slightly creamy, and completely delightful.  

"I walked outside and felt like I was swimming," Jack said me the other day, as I picked him up from the airport after a flight from Los Angeles. It's humid, to say the least, and the air is thick.  

It's the kind of heat that takes your breath away the moment you step out the door. But I'm not complaining; it usually takes only a few weeks for the body to adjust to our summer temperatures.  

Hydration is essential. Eight glasses of water (I'm not sure who suggested that) is simply not enough, so I've been on a smoothie kick lately, and this cool strawberry banana smoothie recipe is my new fave.  

I originally prepared this strawberry banana smoothie for Jack. Regardless of the weather, he prefers smoothies. But I've been waking up particularly thirsty recently, so this luscious berry smoothie has really filled the mark.  

I like to make this smoothie with a combination of strawberries and raspberries, but if you want to go all strawberry banana, use 2 cups strawberries instead of strawberries and raspberries, and a whole banana instead of a half.   

This strawberry banana smoothie recipe can be made with either fresh or frozen fruit; if using frozen fruit, reduce the amount of ice used. I recommend adding the optional basil or mint, as they provide a nice freshness to this drink.
